Photography

I've owned a nice camera for the last couple of years, when Dancer bought me a Rebel XTI - but I've never really taken it out of the automatic modes and learned how to use it.

So this last couple of months, I've really been trying. I signed up for a beginners course form the New York Institute of Photography, and taken my camera out and about taking portrait photos of Dancer dancing, going places with friends and taking scenic photos.

I've also been grabbing shots when people come over for drinks or food

and generally any time I go out

Tomorrow I get a 50mm prime lens, as fast as f1.8, and this weekend a friend and I will be heading to a belly dance night, hopefully to get some really nice portrait shots.

I've also found a local photography course or two being run this fall at the local college, I hope to sign up to those pretty soon.

It's an expensive hobby, but it's something useful when the baby is born!

I have the 50mm canon prime - it's good, great value for the money. If you can find one of the older metal ones, they're supposed to be better than the newer plastic ones.

Thats what I've been reading - but for under $100, we couldn't beat it (with free 2 day shipping, and a shoot coming up too)

the f1.4 looked even better, but couldn't justify the cost right now.
